The author uses a lot of figurative language. She helps you create the picture in your mind as if it were a memory. She describes everything in great detail, but doesn't go on and on about it. She tells us the story of Lily and Snow Flower in such a beautiful way you can't help but fall in love with their friendship.
In Snow FLower and the Secret Fan, Lisa See uses many sensory details to tell the story. With the use of phrases that were actually said and used on girls in that time period, such as, "a women should think only of her husband and children, and never herself," (59), we as readers get a better image of what life was like for these poor young women.
