In the book, there were many different marriages, it would be so hard to leave your family forever, even if it is a gradual process. How would we cope today if we had to do such a thing?
That is completely true, Grace. I personally don't know if I could do any of the things they did in the book. The whole foot binding process sounds so gruesome and painful. The whole way they did marriages seems like so much to do for something that isn't really based on love. If you knew they loved each other, like you do now when you get married, it would be something totally different.
