"Sons are the foundation of a woman's self. They give a woman her identity, as well as dignity, protection, and economic value." I found this passage on page 151. I felt it was important because it shows the exact mindset of the time. We see that women were inferior, daughters were a burden, and daughters- in -law were only good for having sons.
"To me, this was the true meaning of 'The Take of Wife Wang'. Maybe she could not make her husband do what she wanted him to do, but through her piety and good works she not only saved him from the condemnation bought by his polluted acts, she also helped her whole family reach nirvana" (104). This passage is important because it showed a rare occasion in which a woman in China was the hero and was not condemned. It gave women and young girls hope and sometimes even the power to continue on through all the difficulties they would face through the rest of their lives.
