Interpret:

What is your interpretation/analysis of the book on a deeper level?

  1. On the surface the book could be interpreted as a story of the friendship, or sisterhood, of two girls, Lily and Snow Flower. It is a story of their struggles to live in a world where men rule everything, daughters are a disgrace, and women are only good for birthing sons. However, if you go down a few levels into the book you find it is a story of strength to all women and minorities. It says that things used to be worse, women used to be treated as property. We should just be strong whether that means just rolling with the punches or standing up for ourselves. That doesn't go for only women.

  2. This book has meanings and lessons hidden in its wording. Sometimes it was saying more than one thing. Some of the lessons were about how badly we treat those that are considered less than us by society, even though in truth they are stronger than we may ever be. Other lessons in the book include keeping your resolve, even when your situation seems hopeless. The other lessons are loyalty, to be thankful for what you have, and to always appreciate those that you love while you can.

  3. Responding to Madison's comment, I think that your interpretation of the book is a very good one. The book does show sides of friendship, a society of male dominance, and the struggles of minorities in most societies. I loved your ending sentences.
