This book is written in a way that is simple to understand but is still challenging to the reader. It is also written in a way that gives me insight to the culture and how the people of this country in this time period viewed women. There is a lot of figurative language used in this novel, especially similes.
The thing I love about reading this type of book is the book's ability to tell two stories at one time. While this book tells the story of Snow Flower and Lily's friendship, it also teaches the reader about what it was like to live as a woman in China during that time.
